Bruce Chapman, a fourth-generation Winters resident and the new pastor of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, will appear as Charles Haddon Spurgeon during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, June 10.
Chapman, a fourth-generation Winters resident who received a degree in Drama from Sacramento State University, will incorporate some of Spurgeon’s most famous illustrations and meditations in several dramatic reenactments that he has presented in churches on the West and East Coasts the past eight years. This introductory sermon A Visit with C.H. Spurgeon reflects Spurgeon’s heart for the lost and his love for the Savior and includes Spurgeon’s personal testimony.
Spurgeon, often referred to as the “Prince of Preachers,” is history’s most widely-read preacher (apart from the Biblical ones). His collected sermons are the largest body of work by a single author in the history of Christianity. He once operated the largest independent church in the world and is said to have preached to over 10 million people in his lifetime with a style that is both elegant and powerful.
There is no admission charge. Pioneer Presbyterian Church is located at 205 Russell Street in Winters.
