David Reyes, a sophomore at Winters High School, is the Pisani’s Athlete of the Week. Reyes is a three-sport athlete and as a sophomore competed at the varsity level in football, basketball and baseball. In football Reyes was the only sophomore on the varsity team, and completed 395 receiving yards and made four touchdowns. On the court he averaged 12 points per game, and in baseball hit one RBI and nine runs in the short spring season.]]>
Winters once boasted a prosperous Japanese community, which tragically burned on Aug. 1, 1942 when the United States was celebrating victory over Japan. While the cause of the fire has never been determined, Winters saw discrimination toward Japanese Americans following the war.
