Swimming – Nov. 2 The Winters High School swim team sent four boys to the NSCIF Championship, at Shasta Community College in Redding on Saturday, Nov. 2. The contingent of Warriors scored 121 points, in five individual events and two relays, placing sixth. The athletes who competed at the championship were Ruben Valencia, Eithyn Mello, Garrett Matheson and Diego Valencia. They placed third in the freestyle relay and set their fastest time in competition. Cross country – Nov. 6 The cross country team traveled to West Valley High School, in Cottonwood to the Shasta Cascade League championship, on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The team was invited to run the same course they will run at the section finals and see the competition they have not yet run against, no times were recorded for the SVL teams present. When asked what they learned from the run on Wednesday, Natasha Diaz said, “I can use the downhill sections to catch my breath,” finding a positive aspect to the hardest part of the course. The Warriors found the course at WVHS, with three good size hills is one of the most difficult they will traverse. The only other course they have ran similar to this, was during practice out in the vineyards on Moody Slough Road. On Thursday, Nov. 14 the WHS cross country team will return to West Valley High School for the Section Finals where hey will run against all schools in the section. However, each division will have their own placing. JV Football The junior varsity football game between Winters and Willows was cancelled, and the Warriors end the season with a forfeit loss. WHS Athletic Director Daniel Ward said, “The JV game was canceled this week due to low numbers of available players from both schools. Our JV team has had some bad luck the couple weeks in regards to injuries and we felt like it was in the best interest of our student athletes to not play the game.”]]>
