On Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Winters Community Center the Winters Theatre Company will host a benefit performance of Donald Margulies’ Coney Island Christmas.
Coney Island Christmas celebrates children and nostalgia. This play is about a Jewish child and her experience of the Christmas season. It is filled with all the humor, warmth and family moments that make up part of holiday traditions.
In the show, Shirley Abramowitz, now a grandmother, visits her family in California and tells her granddaughter the story of when she was a little girl in Coney Island and was cast as Jesus in the school pageant.
The audience is transported back to Coney Island in the 1930s with all the nostalgia of post-war America in a familiar tale of immigrant parents worried that they will lose their identity if they give up their traditions and immigrant children embracing the idea of being American and part of the new world.
WTC will donate a portion of ticket sales from the Nov. 23 benefit performance to the Winters Music Boosters.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children (age 12 and under). Included with the price of the ticket will be complimentary desserts, cocoa, coffee and water.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or at www.winterstheatre.org.]]>
