Alleged DUI crash kills car passenger in rural Yolo County

A 27-year-old Esparto man was arrested on felony drunken-driving charges following an early morning collision that killed his passenger Friday west of Woodland. According to the California Highway Patrol, Uriel A. Magallanes was at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla that ran off eastbound Highway 16 near County Road 94B at about 1:10 a.m., crashing into a culvert and pole. The impact caused his passenger, a 29-year-old Esparto woman, to become ejected from the car and sustain fatal injuries. Magallnes was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to Kaiser Vacaville hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, the CHP reported. The collision remains under investigation.
