The Winters Express is excited to announce Winters Family Fun Week, taking place downtown from April 21 through April 24. Publisher Taylor Buley invites his neighbors to enjoy a host of family-oriented events, including activities, entertainment and deals, in hopes of showcasing and developing a clean and safe Winters downtown for families of all types.

Family Activities & Deals

Local establishments are planning a number of special activities, entertainment and deals for locals throughout the week:

  • Join a coloring contest at Steady Eddy’s all week. The local cafe and eatery is also offering a Family Meal Deal featuring four Panini or Wraps for a special discounted price.
  • Stop by the popcorn stand outside of Berryessa Gap Winery from Wednesday to Friday.
  • Pop by Farmer’s Closet, Winters newest clothier, offering 15% off children’s clothing all week.
  • Check Preserve’s Instagram account for a family-focused meal special available for local delivery via Ghost Runner Delivery.

The Express is organizing a series of self-guided events that encourage neighbors to get out of the house in a safe way. Participating businesses will enforce mask-wearing and other public safety guidelines.

Movie Night Wednesday

Meet at sunset at the Mariani Nut parking lot, on Railroad Avenue across from the Post Office, for a showing of an exciting 2020 Hollywood family movie release shown in “reels on wheels” style, projected on a big screen with audio broadcast via car radio. Pizza Factory is scheduled to be on site selling pizza by the slice and Kona Ice is expected to have a truck onsite as well. This free event will be limited by space and/or to the first 75 cars.

Thursday Game Night

Bring your family out for a night on the (small) town and enjoy a board game from one of the many socially-distanced tables on and around Main Street.

While there, join in our downtown-wide “Duck Hunt:” find a rubber duck, get a Lester’s Farm Bakery cookie from a participating retailer… And keep the duck! 100 ducks will be hidden in and around our downtown businesses, refreshed throughout the day until 5 p.m. A great, self-guided family activity for all ages while we wait for next year’s Youth Day duck race.

Family Feast Friday

The Winters’ Fourth Friday is back with a family-focused theme, hosted outside of the Berryessa Gap Tasting Room. Berryessa Gap will feature family favorites hot dogs and brats, with a wine by the glass special for adults.

While safely enjoying downtown, enjoy sidewalk sales by Winters Collective, Farmer’s Closet or Ciarlo Fruit & Nut. Kona Ice is featuring a new offering that’s sure to be a family favorite: ice cream.

Cleanup Saturday

Join in a city- (and creek-) wide cleanup event on Saturday, April 24th at 9 a.m. This self-paced, family-oriented competition works on the honor system. Register for a garbage bag at 13 Russell Street after 9 a.m. and return it by noon with your trashiest finds. Earn prizes for the biggest haul and weirdest pickups. Go for a trash-picking walk in historical downtown Winters, or scavenge along Putah Creek. The family that collects the most garbage wins our yet-unannounced grand prize, a secret you won’t want to miss. Other prizes will be offered, sponsored by the Winters Chamber of Commerce. We encourage you to bring water and wear sunscreen. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided.

El Pueblo Meat Market will be selling churros and other event treats on Saturday. Los Desconocidos, Winters’s favorite local band playing Norteño music, will play outside of El Pueblo around noon.

Tune in to the Winters Express Facebook page at 1 p.m. to hear California Democratic Party Yolo County delegate Dillan Horton — an area activist and one of the youngest candidates in Davis City Council history — speak about the importance of bipartisan youth involvement in politics and advocacy. A longtime fan of Youth Day, Horton hopes to inspire its spirit with a videotaped missive.

Safely join your neighbors at Hooby’s Brewing before or after a meal Saturday evening to enjoy the live music of Big Ben & the Brians from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
