Joan Barker Lopez April 2, 1946 – January 28, 2021 Joan Barker Lopez passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021 after many years of battling Parkinson’s disease. Joan was born and raised in Winters to James and Mildred Barker. She was an outstanding student and involved in athletics, band, 4-H and many other activities. She married John Lopez in 1963 and moved to Davis to live out her entire life. She devoted herself to raising their two children, Lori and Jonathan but went back to school to fill the days once they were in school and found her passion for nursing. She worked at Sutter Davis Hospital for the majority of her career and then spent the last few years at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento. Joan managed the Sutter Davis Emergency Room for many years where she helped many community members through difficult times and led the design of the Emergency Room space in the new hospital. Along with her devotion to her work, she was also a fixture at her children’s and then grandchildren’s activities. Many of these allowed her to combine her love of sports and theatre with travel, taking her to every corner of California, Hawaii, Illinois, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, and Oklahoma to name a few. Always one for an adventure, Joan traveled to many parts of the world whenever she had the opportunity and returned several times to Spain and England to visit her and John’s families. She is survived by her husband John of 58 years; children Lori Bloomfield (Tony) and Jonathan Lopez (Debbie); six grandchildren Brittany Sadoma (David), Lindsey Day (Quinten), KC Lopez (Lici), Brett Bloomfield, Kelli Lopez and Jake Lopez; two great-children Sophie and Leo Day; her sister Jill James (Lyle), in-laws Maria Lopez and Joe Lopez (Wendy) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to COVID-19, no service is planned at this time. The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to Sutter Davis Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 160045, Sacramento, CA 95816 or https:/
