By Tanya Meyer Special to the Express On Wednesday, May 26 at 5 p.m., the Yolo County and Solano Resource Conservation Districts will host a virtual meeting for residents in the Winters area who are interested in participating in a community Fire Safe Council for the Greater Winters Area. Fire Safe Councils are community-led organizations that mobilize residents to protect their homes, community and environments from catastrophic wildfire. Members of the public from Northern Solano and Yolo counties interested in starting their own groups are encouraged to attend. Attendees will learn from experts about what the next steps are to formalizing the Greater Winters Fire Safe Council and will have a chance to meet each other and discuss shared interests. Local fire officials will be attending as well. Both Solano and Yolo Counties are in the process of forming countywide Fire Safe Councils to support community and neighborhood groups by providing a venue for communication and collaboration after the devastating LNU Complex Fire and to develop a roadmap for identifying, prioritizing and completing projects that support wildfire preparedness and prevention so as to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire.
