November 23, 1932 – June 6, 2021 Our beloved Laurie grew up in Winters, California; she was the second of 3 children born to Richard and Allena Frisbee. Graduating High School at 16, she was accepted into Stanford University for a summer program, following her brother Don to study there. Laurie earned her Teaching Credential and graduated from Stanford with the class of 1953. Laurie’s petite size belied her tremendous energy and enthusiasm for life; her sparkly eyes and smiling face were demonstrative of her loving, compassionate nature and zest for fun! Spontaneous, always ready for an adventure- she was known for piling the kids plus any of our friends who could join in, into the station wagon and heading for the beach on short notice. Deep, candid, well read and reflective, she was a wonderful counselor and mentor. A sun worshipper and fitness swimmer, Laurie was often at the Eichler Swim and Tennis Club, relaxing in the sun, swimming her daily laps and supporting her children with their swimming and diving teams. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA Member, and devoted Stanford football fan, holding Season Tickets well into her 80’s. Laurie taught Junior High School in Palo Alto for the majority of her 30 year teaching career in the district. Former students would routinely come up to her in public to tell her, “Mrs. Layne, you were my favorite teacher!” A lifelong achiever, Laurie took continuing education courses her entire career. One of her proudest achievements was earning her Master’s Degree in Licensed Clinical Social Work in her 60’s. Laurie’s greatest joy was family, and she was a wonderful Mom and adored Grandmother. Laurie is survived by her fiancée and partner of 15 years Jack Bassett, son Kendall Layne, daughters Lisa Layne (Richard Silberman) Susan Layne and Julia McClain (Frank), sister Barbara Rumble (Bill) sister in-law Betty Frisbee (Donald d.) beloved grandsons Joshua Layne (Sophia), Tyler Layne, Alex Anstead (fiancée Alicia Volpe) and Jason Silberman; granddaughter Tracey McClain (Zach Drummer), Jack’s children; John Bassett and Jane Rosario (Richard), great grandchildren Rowan and Oliver and numerous very much loved nieces and nephews. Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and partner, Laurie will be greatly missed. We will hold her in our hearts forever. Family and close friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on July 17th.
