Known for its food, drinks and lively social atmosphere, Green River Brewery & Taproom can now be known as a family-owned business. The Neils, of course, are ready to keep the beer and business flowing. John, Karen, Brock and Ashlynne Neil have officially stepped into the role as owners. It had always been a long-term goal of the Neils’ to take ownership and move forward as a family. When the opportunity finally presented itself, they were able to take advantage of it. Co-owner Brock Neil shared details on the mutually beneficial buyout of business partners Todd Carlson and Dave Legoullon. “Those guys are fantastic people, and we’re really happy for them to be part of Green River forever as founders,” Brock Neil said. “The circumstances were right, and those guys were willing to come up with an agreement that pleased everybody. It was a good feeling moving forward and them passing the torch.” After a smooth transition, the Neils took full ownership of Green River on March 1. To further assist in the changeover, Carlson is assisting Neil with day-to-day procedures so he can efficiently takeover his old position. While becoming a business partner can be nerve-racking, Neil hasn’t let it diminish his excitement for the future. “I’m looking forward to having a family-oriented venue for the community that caters to all demographics,” Neil said. “We have a lot of cool stuff coming this summer like cornhole and a concert series. It’s a family thing for us and we want it to be a family thing for everybody else too.” While the family looks forward to serving the community, they’ll also be facing a myriad of challenges including the all-too-familiar pandemic. “COVID is first and foremost. We’ve been fortunate to have the outdoor venue and have adapted and rolled with the punches,” Neil said. “And also trying to have something that appeals to everybody is certainly challenging for me.” With their California Cornhole Association tournaments and live music events this summer, Green River will undoubtedly have that universal appeal. When asked for any parting thoughts, the young business owner gave a humble sentiment. “We’re fortunate to have this opportunity and looking forward to hitting the ground running and being an asset to our little town,” Neil said.
