Winters Theatre Company is holding auditions for its upcoming October show, “The War of the Worlds,” on Tuesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Winters Community Center, 201 Railroad Ave. in Winters. The performance will be the 1938 Radio Script by Howard E. Koch. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Show dates are the first two weekends of October (October 5, 6 and 7, and 12, 13 and 14).
On Sunday evening, October 30, 1938, Orson Welles caused a nationwide panic with his broadcast of “War of the Worlds”—a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth. This was primetime in the golden age of radio, when millions of Americans had their radios turned on. Perhaps as many as a million radio listeners believed that a real Martian invasion was underway, and panic broke out across the country.
In October, the WTC will re-create the panic of that evening in this radio show drama. For more information, visit winterstheatre.org, email winterstheatre@gmail.com or call 530-795-4014.
