Youth virtual bereavement art group begins in August

UC Davis Health Special to the Express The UC Davis Child Life and Creative Art Therapy Department will host “Remembering Together: Virtual Bereavement Art Group,” focusing on grief and processing loss through self-expression and art for children next month. The group dates and time will be based on age:

  • Ages 6-11: Aug. 17, 24 and 31 from 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Ages 12-16: Aug. 19, 26 and Sept. 2 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Each workshop will be facilitated by a certified child life specialist and a registered art therapist, trained in bereavement and child development. The three-session workshop will teach them tools to express and process difficult emotions related to loss. To register, fill out the family questionnaire online at bit.ly/3BKWDUP by Monday, Aug. 2. Questions can be sent to supportgroupsforchildren@ucdavis.edu. After registration, participants will receive art materials and necessary information to participate in the virtual group. The group is funded by New York Life and is provided free of charge to the public.
