Sammy Gonzales, a 2018 Winters High School graduate is this week’s athlete of the week. On June 9, Gonzales helped lead the South squad of the Chico Lions Club Bob Busch Classic All Star baseball game to a 7-3 victory. Gonzales scored the Souths first run in the first inning and then scored the go ahead run in the fifth. Gonzales was also just named the Winters High School male athlete of the year. Gonzales was a three sport standout that ended his high school career helping the Warriors baseball team win their fourth straight section title, a number one state ranking and was named the Sacramento Valley League Co-MVP, the Northern Section All Section MVP and made the Sacramento Bee All Metro second team.
