As is done every year at graduation time, the Winters High School athletic department chooses a female and male athlete of the year. This year the awards went to Alexis Garcia and Sammy Gonzales, respectively. As they have done for the last four years, the two Warriors stood out in their respective sports this year and left a lasting impression.

Garcia played basketball for the Warriors, but found more success on the softball field. This year Garcia led the team with a .538 average, had 24 runs scored, 18 RBI, 10 doubles, five home runs and a grand slam. Garcia also had 20 stolen bases and struck out 130 batters as the Warriors ace on the mound. Garcia made the Sacramento Valley League First Team All League.

Gonzales was a three-sport athlete who stood out in all three sports, but he too found the most success on the baseball field. Gonzales was a four year starter on the varsity team, collecting four section championships and two number one state rankings along the way. Gonzales capped off his four year career batting .473 with 51 runs, 30 RBI, eight doubles, 14 triples, four home runs and had 22 stolen bases. Gonzales was also named the Sacramento Valley League CO-MVP.
